Comedian Joel McHale describes Famous Beef on E! as a culinary talk show where he can “screw” and cook with a bunch of celebrities.
McHale will present a bunch of celebrities that include reality stars Caroline Manzo and Jeff Lewis to actors Cheryl Hines and Todd Bridges. The concept behind the show – as opposed to turning around – is to give celebrities a chance to “pump” their beef while at the same time preparing a meal and winning some serious cash.
Joel McHale can not believe he’s returning to E!
McHale, who serves as executive producer and host of the show, laughed about his return to E! “I cook with celebrities while we turn around. It’s called Famous Beef, ”McHale told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. McHale took a shot at joking about his triumphant (?) Return to E!
“And that I’ll be back on E!” he exclaimed. “Can’t believe I’m back on E! … Yes, I’m glad to be there. But if you said, [The Soup] will end and you will cook again, I would be like, I do not think it’s a thing, but OK, it’s a fantasy world in which you live. ”
McHale’s star rose when he became the host of E!’S The soup in 2004. The program grew in popularity with McHale running the pop culture fun bus and for 12 years it was a major attraction. But after 22 seasons, McHale said the story has shifted to the network.
“E! Came out of the comedy business when Chelsea [Handler] left and, unfortunately, Joan [Rivers] died, ”McHale told The Music in 2017. “We were the last man to stand.” Add, “It did not fit their model and that was the end. We performed excellently in E! Ratings; we performed excellently compared to other things on the network.”
Joel McHale makes up the rules along the way
While a return to E! perhaps feeling surreal, the fusion of cooking while riffing is something that instantly makes McHale feel at home. “It will not be like Curtis Stone,” he joked.

“I do all the judging and I make all the rules,” he said. But added that his set of rules will be very different from what is found on a program like Master Chef. “Like Gordon, Ramsay has very good rules about Master Chef. If we run out of time, I’ll just say, ‘You have another minute. Go ahead. “I see you are not done yet,” he said. “While we all give each other shit.”
In the Famous Beef trailer, McHale says actor Todd Bridges really thought he was actor Jason Sudeikis. Add, “I do not think anyone knows why they are here. Especially me.”
‘Celebrity Beef’ is chaos, humiliation and anarchy
When McHale was on The soup, E! manufacturers encouraged him to mock the network. And now he’s back to drag E! any chance he gets. “We have chaos. Anarchy. And humiliation. The cornerstone of all E! shows, ”McHale joked in the Famous Beef trailer.
“As the celebrities try to finish the score in the kitchen, things get tense as they reveal the inside of their rivalry. As host, Joel acts as prosecutor, judge and jury, creating twists and turns with various challenges during the showdown. The winner of each challenge will have an advantage over their competitor, such as being treated to exclusive ingredients, while the loser will receive a cruel punishment, such as exchanging their knives for garden tools, ”according to E!
“At the end of each episode, the participants offer their last meal to Joel for the final taste test, as he crowns one person the winner and helps the duos to stamp their beef once and for all. The winner will also receive a trophy and $ 10,000 will be awarded for their charity of choice. ”
Famous Beef premieres on Tuesday, August 2 at 10pm ET / PT.
